Founded in 1989, we design and manufacture metal stamped and assembled parts, tubes, and engineered assemblies for the light vehicle and commercial vehicle markets. We are very good at what we do; we count many of the world’s largest corporations among our customers.  We keep them supplied from two locations in central Indiana, Edinburgh and Columbus. Sacoma is a design and engineering-driven company, working with customers to optimize performance and manufacturing efficiency from the initial design stage through mature products.

     

    In this “hands on” engineering position, the incumbent is responsible for identifying, developing, evaluating, improving, commissioning and documenting automated manufacturing processes. Successful candidate will also be a key member of our Continuous Improvement team. In addition, you will work closely with our Quality Assurance and Production staff to ensure our products meet our quality standards regarding the assembly specification, final inspection standards, and work-in-process standards.

    Responsibilities

    1. Gain a “hands on” in-depth understanding of the manufacturing processes of our business units
    2. Provide engineering support to the business units to trouble shoot and resolve technical issues, specifically related to machine controls and networking.
    3. Identify areas for automated process improvements, and implement corrective actions as necessary.
    4. Maintain and develop all drawings and documentation related to process changes and improvements.
    5. Concept and design machine programming, tooling and associated components for manufacture and implementation
    6. Develop and maintain automated processes according to time, cost and customer specifications
    7. Develop and maintain continuous improvement and quality plans
    8. Identify and implement automated process improvements using lean manufacturing principles

    Qualifications

    Requirements (Consider the required knowledge, skills, abilities, behaviors, and/or equipment)

    1. Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering Technology desired. Would consider Associates Degree in technology field and 5-7 years of related technical or engineering work experience in a manufacturing environment.
    2. 3 + years of “hands on” automated engineering experience in a manufacturing environment
    3. Experience with Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma and 5S concepts desired
    4. Strong understanding of PLC programming, vision and robotics 

     

    1. Proficiency in Electrical Diagram documentation – CAD
    2. Autodesk Mechanical or Inventor software experience
    3. Proficiency in use of Microsoft Office Suite
    4. Excellent written and oral communications skills
    5. Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills
    6. Analytical and problem solving skills
    7. Proficient in advanced PLC programming (AB)
    8. Industrial camera (vision) experience and integration (Cognex or Keyence)
    9. Ability to specify electrical components and materials for equipment
    10. Knowledge of servo controls and motors
    11. Knowledge of resistance welding is a plus
    12. Knowledge of stamping presses and controls highly desired
